As several of Georgia’s southern regions prepare for potential severe weather associated with Hurricane Hermine, the American Red Cross is working alongside community partners to provide safe lodging.

Right now, Red Cross has five shelters scheduled to open Thursday night for those affected by the storm.

Additional shelters will be opened if needed. The Red Cross will continue to monitor and respond to other areas as storms roll through the state this week.

Red Cross shelters provide the immediate emergency needs of those affected, including a safe place to stay and food to eat.

The Red Cross encourages anyone coming to an emergency shelter to bring personal items for each member of their family: prescription and emergency medications, extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies and important documents. It’s also important to remember special items for children such as diapers, formula, toys and other items for family members who have unique needs.
