Locally filmed movie debuts at Savannah Theater
Savannah, Ga. (WTGS FOX 28) — Savannah serves as the backdrop for yet another movie, adding to its already growing film industry.
"Savannah is just a gorgeous place to shoot anything. The scenery, the history," said Norm Novitsky.
That's why he, along with writer Tom Salari, decided to film "In Search of Liberty", in the city. Wednesday, they hosted a movie screening at the Savannah Theater.
Novitsky is the director and producer and says the movie is an educational dramedy about the U.S. Constitution done in a very fun way.
"We take this historical figure from the past. We bring him in to the present and we have him take a journey with a modern day family of four going through the key elements of the Constitution and the importance of the document," Novitsky said.
Cast members like Bobby Deen say they had a good time shooting the movie.
"I'd say it's kind of a magic carpet ride through American history," he stated.
Deen, who plays a character named David Ellis in the film, says the project has opened up his eyes in a new way.
"People are really paying attention to what's going on in the United States and all around the world politically and you know it's--everybody should know what their rights and liberties are," said Deen.
With the film's focus on history, Novitsky says historic Savannah was meant to be involved.
"'In Search of Liberty' belonged in a city like this."
Novitsky says the film has been in the works for six years. But it took six weeks to shoot; four of them being in Savannah.
"In Search of Liberty" will be officially released on August 29th.
