SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTGS) — Savannah's Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) invited Chatham County law enforcement officials to address public safety concerns at Tuesday's association meeting.
Savannah’s interim police chief Lenny Gunther, Chatham County Sherriff John T Wilcher, and Chatham County District Attorney Shalena Cook Jones were all in attendance to provide a platform for community dialogue.
“Downtown residents started having and noticing an increase in crime," saidDavid McDonald, DNA president. "You know, we had a homicide at Broughton and Bull, we’ve had several shootings at City Market, we’ve had a rash of car break-ins. Someone’s carburetor was stolen the other day. So, a lot of that going on, and that drove up the concern about crime.”

McDonald said that association members are primarily concerned with the way 911 calls are received and responded to.
