SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTGS FOX 28) — Savannah Police's Traffic Investigation Unit is working on investigating a fatal wreck Thursday afternoon that killed one and injured several, according to a release.
Around 12:30 p.m., a Honda CRV was traveling south on Whitaker Street approaching Victory Drive. The car contained the driver and two passengers, the release states.
At the same time, a Toyota Camry was traveling west on Victory Drive approaching Whitaker Street, police say. That car contained the driver as well as two passengers.
According to the TIU's preliminary investigation, it appears that the driver of the CRV had a medical episode, which caused him to run the red light, crashing into the passenger side of the Camry.
That impact resulted in both vehicles rotating and striking a building wall, utility pole and traffic control box, police say.
Ninteen-year-old Jabria Cope, a passenger in the Camry, died as a result of her injuries. Police say everyone else involved in the wreck, except the driver of the CRV, sustained serious injuries.
